Question protein skimmer/filter

hey!

first off, id like to know if my 10 gallon tank will survive for many years to come if i only have a penguin bio wheel filter, and a visi-jet protein skimmer(filtration wise)? ive heard a lot of people tell me to buy an expensive protein skimmer that is huge, and the one thing im afraid of happening is this huge protein skimmer/filter will suck up my fish. i mean this might sound stupid, but if you thik about it, putting a huge 130$ protein skimmer/filter on such a small tank, **** happens. thanks.

Honestly I think it is more likely that your 10 gallon tank somehow turns into a 55!!!...

Once you get the bug you will find that 10 gallon tank simply can not hold all the cool stuff available

Have to agree with you there, 10 gal. he'll find is just too small. I have a 55 gal. and it's too small you'll find that any size is too small.

Best to figure out how much money you can put to all the equipment needed, then how much money you can buget for your tank monthly. This will usually determine the size of your tank.

One more thing... usually when dealing with a reef tank, bigger is better. I would say you should start out with at least a 50gal tank, especially if this is your first tank.
more water valume, means you'll have more time to catch problems with water chemistry, or any changes in your tank that might occure, Temp., desease, and fewer water changes.

good luck
