Protien Skimmer recommendations?

I am setting up a 90 gallon tank. I have an external canister filter, and will have live rock and sand for substate. I am trying to pick a skimmer. I would like to have it mounted external with the canister filter. Trying not to break the bank. What suggestions do you have? Webpage links to products would be helpful.

Thanks,
Rob

Hi Rob,
I'm currently using the Aquarium Systems SeaClone on my 75 gal reef. It works really well, is easy to adjust and setup, and can be used either hanging on the back of the tank or in a sump. And it's cheap! I got mine for about 60 bucks from Dr Foster and Smiths online site.

I have a Sea Clone 150 in a sump on a four-month old reef, and it's been working fine. You need to keep the skimmer pre-filter clean or performance suffers. Easy to tune, I followed the instructions, set the inlet to 1.25 turns and haven't touched it since.

Check out the CPR Bak Pak and Aqua C remora pro. THose two seemto be the consensus top end on an "inexpensive" skimmer. Both work very well.

AquaC Remora Pro is a great skimmer. I have an Excaliber and it rocks. Gets out alot of gunk. Right now I'm converting my tank so it's running slow but under normal load conditiions it gets out a lot of stuff. Next skimmer though will be the RemoraPro with the Mag 3.

the seaclones are descent, but definitly not the best. i am running one right now, in the process of swapping it out for 2 CPR bak-paks. you need to clean the prefilter on the seaclone weekly, i just ditched it, since it cut back on the effectiveness. it works better without it. i'd recommend the Aqua C remora's, or the CPR bak-paks for a hang on, i'm not too familiar with any in sump models. good luck.

reefer, if i took a pic of it right now, all you'd see is cloudiness. i havent hooked the cpr up yet, but i did get the intake and venturi valve. after it clears, i'll take the 330 out and put the cpr there. anyway, i'll post pics later in a different thread, you can see my tank in my gallery, sort of old pics though.
