so after saying all of this about RO and Distilled water, distilled water comes out to be even better then RO, Distilled might be a little more expensive, but it is better then RO, right?
R.O. water is reverse osmosis, a process of purification. R.O./D.I. water has the additional step of deionization, making it even better than R.O. water. Most reefkeepers use R.O./D.I. water because of the need to remove all, or almost all, of the phosphates and silicates. There has been some discussion lately as to whether an R.O. membrane is 100% effective at removing chloramine. You would have to do a search on some of the other boards if you want to investigate that aspect.Originally Posted by Reefer769
Distilled water is water that is purified by a different process -- evaporation and condensation. The only possible problem with distilled water for reef tank purposes would be if the distillation process involved copper pipes like it did a long time ago. I don't believe copper is used for distilled water anymore.
Pure water is pure water. It can't be any better or worse than any other water. The only thing that can be better or worse would be the level of impurities in the water. Pure water is very bland and tasteless and has a neutral pH (7.0). It really doesn't "taste good" like the expensive spring waters and other drinking waters on the market that include lots of minerals to give them that taste appeal. Even rain water is not pure because of all the atmospheric pollution.
