I think if your gonna be putting LR in your tank, you will eventually have Live sand. It is ok to put the sand at the LFS in your tank, but it may be expensive. Many people use playsand that you can buy at Home Depot, "argonite", calcium carbonate sand, which is much cheaper. I think its called "Southdown or Old Castle Tropical Playsand". I have a FOWLR with some crushed coral and the sand that you can buy "Argamax" or something.(?). but I bought the stuff before I knew about this site.!. In my sand you can see tiny critters and such, so i guess the critters from the LR reproduced and spread, which, i think, is a good thing. just buy a pound or 2 of live sand and spread it over the LFS or Home Depot sand, that'll be good.
