AquaFX, a sponsor of Reefland, offers a bare bones 50gpd RO unit for $99.00. The obvious advantage here is 40gpd more if you need it and you;d be surprised when an emergency comes up.
However I would urge you to look for at least a 4 stage unit which also incorporates a DI unit in the filter for even better water. With a RO/DI unit, you can expect to get 0ppm TDS which is the output we're looking for. At this link, you can find a 4 stage unit for $160. http://www.aquaticreefsystems.com/di...se_osmosis.htm Scott Z. |

It don't look bad. As for the filter, I personally like clear canisters, makes it easier for me to see what's going on with the sediment filter and the color changing DI resin.
As for the price, it would concern me a bit. I am always a bit concerned with Customer Service and usually a lower price means lower service. Scott Z. |

Yeah it can get very expensive, especially to get high end equipment. Most people don't want to think of what was spent on their tanks, especially when they have been through crashes!

Yes this AquaFx unit is a bit more than some and a bit less than others.
I figured that the most important part of this hobby is the water. I think by using higher quality unit with quality filters you stand a better chance of having a great tank. I'm about eleven oceans from being an expert, but my family and I are going to be drinking the water from this unit as well. I have been asked how much I've spent on my system so far....I try to talk around the question. I really don't want to know... But in all if you cannot afford more... you can alway buy a higher quality replacement filters in the first change. This is still better than no filter...right.? Nick

Just an update on the AquaFx, I finally have the unit and hooked it up yesterday. I picked up a 40gal ridgid container and mounted the float valve inside. After running about five gallons down the drain I let it fill the 40 gallon overnight.
I my input water is showing 534 ppm my output water is at 0 ppmSo far this unit seems to be working great, I still need to take the time to hook up the drinking water unit I purchased with the system... Nick
