    Lighting a Sump

    hey!

ive been thinking about making a sump with a refugium, but i dont know if it is safe to have the sump be lighted under my stand, would it be ok? and if all i want the sump for is to hide the protein skimmer and the heater, do i really need a refugium?

    cpr bak pak in sump

if i wanted to put my cpr bak pak in the sump, the inlet/outlet tubes would go too far down, and i only want my walls to be 8" high on a 12" tank, so there would never be a flood, would it be okay to add extentions to the inlet/outlet tubes on the cpr?

Yes for both. If all you want is a sump (no refugium) that is ok. Sumps and refugiums are 2 different things but often combined since it is fairly easy to achieve. A sump is a place for extra water volume and a place to hold equipment; a refugium is a safe place for amphipods, copepods and other critters to reproduce safely away from the natural predators in the display.
