Tidepool and S.O.S overflow

Hello,

I'm new to Reefland's forum. I have just put a Tidepool filter system on my 135 gallon tank. Mrineland say's the filter will handle 600 gph the most I can do with it is 175 gph. If I turn the pump up any more the water will go below the pump intake. I have even raised my max water level and my operating level in hopes to increase the turnover rate with know luck. I've adjusted all I know according to the owners manual it does not really tell you how to turn it up. This is my first time to have an wet dry system with an overflow. Can anyone help me to adjust it right?

Hi Chris and Welcome to Reefland...

Sounds like the trouble is on the INPUT side of things, you can only pump out as much water ad you get in. What overflow do you use and what size tubing/PVC runs from the overflow to the filter? Also are there any 90 elbows on it? If so they can really reduce the amount of flow to the filter. You may just need to lower teh overflow box in the tank, so that more water can get into it, or you may need to increase the diameter of the drain so that more water can flow... I think it is just going to be lowering the level of the overflow box though...

Hello Mike and thanks for the welcome,

I have a Tidepool silent overflow skimmer it has 1.25" flex hose with one 1.25" elbow. I see know way of lowering the box it would have to be modified. would adding more water to the sump work it looks like I still have a little more room I just don't want to flood everything. I have about a half inch of water from the top of the tank when its operating.

Mike you where right it was only taking what the pump was putting out. By slowly turning the pump up and adding a little water as I did it. I have turned the pump up to full capacity and it is handling it. I only added about a half gallon of water so I will not flood if I lose power. It just need tweaking. I feel stupid but happy now.

Thanks
Chris
