Help! Newbi!! sw-das

Hello! I'm new to the hobby. I purchased a used DAS aquarium w/o the protein skimmer. Guy at lfs said he could get one for around 179.00, but when I returned to buy it the Price was now 500+ dollars. Help! On a very tight budget of which $500+ is not in. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Hi Tanya, welcome to Reefland!

I don't know what to tell you. Aren't those D.A.S. aquariums the ones with the skimmer and filtration built into the rear of the aquarium? I think I saw one a few years back. I wasn't all that impressed with it because it didn't have any room in the built-in canopy for anything other than the included fluorescent tubes and if I remember correctly it would not have been possible to replace the canopy because of the way they designed the stand, tank and canopy as a single custom unit.

You might try running a post in the For Sale or Trade forum at www.reefcentral.com saying you want to buy a used D.A.S. skimmer that fits your setup and see if you get any hits.

Good luck!

Ninong,

Thanks for answering my question. I will try to see if I can find something. I know I must've had sucker written across my face. Anyway, I've taken the plunge, so to speak. You are right, everything is in the aquarium. Maybe it will be a good starter.

Thanks Again,
Tanya
