    Ok..dumb question of the day

I removed my 3/4'' seaswirl from my old tank this weekend due to the fact that my return pump (Mag 9.5) is now being used for my built in overflow. I had my return hooked directly up to my SS on the old setup.

My dilemma is this...If I want to use my SS, I need to add another pump to the sump. I have another Mag I can use but I am thinking by adding another pump...I run the risk of running the sump dry. My overflow has a 1'' bulkhead which I believe has a flow rate of approx 700 gph so am I missing something here or am I pretty much destined to go back to using PH's again?

What are all of you seaswirl users doing to overcome this?

I know this is a stupid question but I honestly cant think of a solution

Well what I would do it use both or the holes you have in your overflow as a feed to your sump and maybe do the returns over the back. That way ya could use your SS also

Why wouldn't you continue to us the SS with the overflow?

A Mag 9.5 does 720 GPH @ 6' head. With the SS and the head you will be @ 680-700 GPH perfect for your application. If your tanks runs a little high you can always add a ball valve on the delivery side of the pump (never on the suction side). It's OK to run the tank level a little high as long as it doesn't hit the glass covers. If you're not running covers then you can run the tank level right to the lip where they would sit.

Well, like the topic says.."stupid question of the day" and I fear I am about to look even more stupid but....

How does one hook a SS up to the factory output on an overflow?

I would bypass the overflow return and put a hose barb on the Mag and run directly to the SS with a hose. You can either use the hole in the overflow as an additional return or plug it.

If you want to use the return screw a hose barb into it and run a hose up to the SS.
