Stream 6060 Users

I have been considering the addition of a Tunze Stream 6060 in our 75 gallon SPS reef to run in conjuction with 4 Maxi-Jet 1200's (3 of them on a Wavemaster Pro) and wanted to get some thoughts. Are we talking about way too much flow adding an additional 1600gph from a Stream?

My brother is using a 6100 in his 120 and it does a very good job. I'm not sure you would need the 4 MJ in your 75. My brother does not have a DSB so he doesnt have to worry about sandstorms. IMO..I dont think you would regret it. I have some pics of his tank with the Tunze in action. Lemme see if I can dig em up.

I really like the palcement of the MJ's since they keep the detritus build-up in one spot on my bare-bottom but I am always looking for ways to add more flow. I would love to set up a closed loop (without drilling) but failed miserably in the past so a Tunze Stream seems like a good fit.

I just took the plunge and ordered one from Marine Depot after looking at it for several hours today!

Scott,

It is just about impossible to have too much flow for SPS. You should guard against having any corals just a few inches from the outlet but other than that, the biggest problem would be kicking up the sand bed -- and you don't have one in this tank.

I still have my Tunze Stream 6060 even though I doubt that I will ever be able to deploy it on my present 120-gal tank as long as I have the 6" Southdown DSB. If you want to buy it cheap, shoot me a PM.

Someone recommended the Tunze 24 kit for us. We have a 180g (6' long) is this going to blow my sand everywhere?

Scott,
Have you ever seen those things? There HUGE..

FWIW, I've been using one of those new SEIO pumps from Tamm. I really like em.

Ninong,

My only concern was that it would blow the side of the tank out.

golfish,

I have not seen them but the dimensions don't sound too bad 4x4.5", can't be no worse than having 4 MJ's in there! LOL By the way, drop me a PM with your address, I never got it from you.

I got 1 of 2 ordered Tunze Streams today and added it to our tank and I must say that I am very impressed with it. I placed this on at the bottom of the aquarium on the left side blowing across the front. The second will be placed at the top right blowing diagonally across the tank.

Using the 2 Tunze streams, in addition to our return pump and the 4 MJ 1200's on the Wavemaster Pro, we'll have around 4,700 gph in our 75 gallon reef.

Hopefully it won't blow the sides of the tank apart!

Well I had a call from FedEx Ground today and for some reason (they didn't know why) my second Tunze Stream is going to be delayed until next week. The lady I spoke with said she didn't know what the problem was since she wasn't handling my package and the other lady that was had already left for the day. Maybe it will come in on Monday so I can get it added.

Did you get the magnet holder for the Tunze Streams?

No. The first one I got I placed on the bottom of the tank propped on a rock, the second one I am hoping to use the standard mounting bracket to hang it in the back right corner of the tank.

We received our 2nd Tunze Stream 6060 today and got it placed in the upper right corner of the tank blowing diagonally across the tank. The mounting brackets for these pumps are pretty useless however I was able to get the pump hung over the tank edge.

We are now running around 4,700gph through our 75 gallon reef.
