    Water quality and Multipure filters

    Hey everyone,

I have a Multi-pure home filter http://www.multipure.com/ Do you think that would be ok instead of the RO? I bought an RO from Home Depot (GE for $159) yesterday but havent hooked it up yet. When the tank was originally set up I used a hose to the outside faucet which dosent have the multipure on it and filled the tank (90g).
I had the multipure in for a year and when I changed the filter it was very clean to my surprise. When I used to live in Boston and would change a filter it would be a very dark brown color.

Filtered water is better then not being filtered but I'm wondering if it would be enough.

For the past month I've been using Poland Springs Distilled water at $1.50 per gallon. The RO would be less costly but the multipure which was around $500 is already hooked up.

    Whats a guy to do?

I don't think anybody can make that call unless we know your tap water quality, 99 times out of 100 its probably just as bad as most. A RO unit will run a carbon block just like the filter you linked. The carbon block is setup before the RO membrane. I don't see how the filter you link can come close to what a RO system can do...

Also, most people use RO\DI water so you might have to run a DI to filter the water even more. Using a TDS meter will help you a lot. I use this one

Thanks Golfish! I'll have to hook up the RO then. I figured the RO would be better.
