Confused about PVC glue...

Can anyone tell me what PVC glue to use? I have seen ALOT of pictures with different colors and such but have not been able to find any real name or type to get. I don't want to kill my new inhabitants with the wrong glue.

If you're actually talking about pvc glue, I think there is only one kind..... You need two products however.... there is a "purple primer" which is used to get the pvc ready to join, and then a clear glue, tho there may be more than one 'brand' of said items. I don't believe the pvc glue is an issue for your critters, since it is safe for people-plumbing. IF on the other hand, you are talking about acrylic glue, that is another story, one which I don't know the ending of

Just ask for solvent cement for PVC plastic pipe. You will also need some PVC primer. The primer is available in either purple or clear. I used purple but if I ever do this again, I will probably look for the more expensive clear because you end up with a neater looking setup. The purple color is just about impossible to get off of anything and it's so obvious in places where it happens to show.

PVC cement and primer is not a problem and safe to use. It's a good idea to wait at least several hours before running water through the pipes unless it's an emergency repair, in which case a couple of hours would do.

Actually, you can get the purple off pretty easily with a fine grade sandpaper.. and the purple has an advantage that the clear does not..... you can tell for sure if you got the primer on all parts... which is important, because the cement will not adhere properly if it is not primed well. Also, just since we're on the subject, you can use acetone fingernail polish remover to take off the words/printing on the pvc, if neatness is that important to you. I guess as long as you're careful, either way works fine.
