I am looking for a good skimmer for my 48 gal bow front tank. I have a 150 gal trickle filter on it with a small sump area of 4 1/2" x 4 1/2" that holds the existing protien skimmer now. The skimmer came with the trickle filter but it does not produce much and sometimes does not even work at all.
Any suggestions on what I should use???

Given the size of the sump area, the AquaC Urchin may fit in there diagonally. Otherwise you may have to get a hang on skimmer, and hang it on the side of your sump, like a Bak-Pak or AquaC Remora..

I have a Prizm Pro that hangs on my sump, works good enough for me right now.

I think you would be much better off with a Remora Pro from AquaC. It is a much better HO protein skimmer and if your going to hang it on your sump, you have no worries about micro-bubbles.

I agree with Reefland on this one. I would upgrade to the mag3 as well. I have a Remora Pro and love this skimmer. It produces a good amount of skimmate every day and it's a breeze to take care of.

My space is limited under the tank. Do you have the actual dimensions of this unit? I have a 150 gal aqua clear trickle filter under the tank and it takes up all the room in the cabinet. I may be able to hang it on the back side of the trickle filter. And thanks for the help.....

Is there a differents between AquaC Remora Protein Skimmer and the AquaC Remora Pro?

The Remora Pro is a larger unit.

Dimensions:

Urchin: 6"X3"x18" High
Urchin Pro: 8"X3.25"X20" high
Remora: 2.75"X6"X17.5" high
Remora Pro: 3.25"X7.5"X21.5"

All these units require an additional 6" of overhead space to remove the collection cups. So you need to have the height of the skimmer plus 6" free.

The Remora is a nice skimmer, no question about it. However Downdraft is only the buzz of the current times, it used to be HSA, or venturi, or Counter Current Air driven. The point is that most quality skimmers will do the job you want from it.

Given the size of your tank and the amount of space you have to work with, I suggested the AquaC as it is the smallest quality skimmer I know of that may fit in your sump. However you may need to look at a skimmer that sits outside your sump or hangs on the back of your fish tank directly.

To answer your question the Prizm Pro would most like be too large for your tank, it is 13"X3.5"X20"

I bought the remora and it fits nicely into the sump (thanks for the help). I have had it installed for about 10 days now and it does not produce much foam. Is there something I need to adjust?

The only real adjustment is the height of the collection cup. I would set it down to it's lowest level for now but keep a close eye on it. There is a period of 1-2 weeks considered the break-in period that it can take for a skimmer to really start producing; I would guess this is what you are experiencing.
