Question Advice with my biowheel

Hi guys... I'm wondering if what I'm experiencing with my biowheel is normal... I currently have ciporax in the bottom, along with some floss on top and I can't seem to get my biowheels to turn well. One of them rotates but the other barely moves... Any suggestions? I was also wondering if I should replace the filter pads I threw out months ago (the guy at the store said use the floss&siporax instead but I'm beginning to wonder) and I have to scrub the thing at least once a week because of the algae buildup... Normal? Lemmie know. Thanx in advance!

I can't comment on the functionality of your bio-wheel but I thought I would chime in to try and see what other equipment you use; it's possible that your system could be better off with out it.

I also have a protein skimmer (don't remember the name-sorry!) and a powerhead...

Hi Scott... Sorry to be so vague...

55 Gallon
About 70 lbs live rock
Live substrate, about 2 1/2 -3 inches deep (not the really fine stuff)

I would remove the Bio-Wheel filter and run with a good protein skimmer and the natural filtration you already have. If you need the extra water movement, look into a couple of powerheads.
