Turboflotor Multi question
I just purchased the Aqua Medic Turboflotor Multi for my 100 gallon aquarium. I have had my tank now for about 2 months and I have about 15 crabs and one stripped goby. My question basically is when should I expect to see some skim in my collection cup? It looks like there are quite a few fine bubbles but the bubbles dont reach to the top of the cup to spill over into the collection cup. I think I'm still a little confused on how the skimmer works.I also have 5 snails and just put 5 small yellow tail damsels in the tank. I also have about 100 lbs of LR and I know I need more and will be purchasing more to come.I plan on building a reef system so any information will help.

Ok i can help you with the skimmer thing. I work at an aquarium and we have some very big skimmers that require a lot of adjusting to get them to work right.
First what kind of foam are you getting? Is it a real wet foam or a nice dry foam, if your foam is not reaching all the way to the collection cup it could be a simple adjustment to let the water level in the skimmer rise just a bit. I should post you guys tons of pictures, since we now have the largest indoor Coral collection in the world. If anyone wants to see how we do things, like lighting, skimmers, Ozone (we rock at controlling O3) or anything like that let me know |

Hello BRAD, well what little foam I get is wet. I had to empty my collection cup yesterday because it was half way full of a tanish color water. I didnt see any foam or bubbles go to the top so I am thinking its the condensation from the bubbles popping and then dripping into the collection cup. I have attempted to adjust the two outflow valves but that causes the skimmer to overflow water into the collection cup. I hope you have some good advice because this is becoming frustrating. I waited all this time and purchased what was to be a very good skimmer and now it doesnt seem to be working :-(

Ok first you want nice dry bubbles that cary the junk out of the water. What kind of valve is it comming out of the fractionator, is it a ball valve or gate valve, If it is just a ball valve sometimes a gate valve works better since there a little more percise in adjustmentes.
Also maybe increase the flow into the fractionator, in the instructions of the skimmer you should find the recomended flow rate. If you have to you can install a little flow meter to monitor it. Hopefully that helps a little to troubleshoot a little more, let me know if any of it helps Quote:

Turbofloaters have 2 adjustment valves. I would start off by turning them both to the 3 o clock position. If it's still real wet foam turn them both equally clockwise in very small increments. I am using the same skimmer. I have tried a couple others and like this one the best. Don't give up it's a very good skimmer. ![]() |
