new skimmer

I have to say, im sure you all know and have heard a million times before, but here goes...

I can not believe the difference a good skimmer can do for water clarity. Its crisp and clear. Best i have ever had the water looking.

Ok, thanks for sharing in my moment

A Percision Marine HOT-1. Actually got it through an ad from magnum22 in the for sale/trade section.

I just set it up plugged it in and its doing its thing as well as i could expect for never having a really good skimmer before. Only down side is the pump makes the tube vibrate a bit and is sort of loud. Might just be time for another pump.

What do you think? its a rio 800

Yup I would say another pump... Rio's have a pretty bad rep, I'll bet a Maxi Jet would make a much better choice. How many GPH is that Rio?

The rio is rated at 211gph but the skimmer is designed for use with the Rio RVT venturi. the pumps are cheap enough at 20.00 that im not too concerned with having to replace it. If ther eis somethingthat is better and can be retro fitted on to the percision marine HOT-1 im game to try it.

Thanks

I installed a Prizm skimmer about 3 weeks ago and had the same problem with the tube vibrating. The prizm has an air hose coming out the top of the water intake tube and they have a place to connect this hose at the top of the skim cup. I diconnected this hose from where they recommended and I put a control valve on the end of the tube to regulate the amount of air intake, this allowed me to control the pressure and the vibration noise is gone. Just a suggestion, I'm not familiar with your skimmer but I would look for alternatives to replacing the pump.
