help with hook-up

I'm hooking up a turbo floater 1000 in-sump skimmer and I have a few questions the instructions leave a bit to be desired.

1. what material and how do you connect the water intake from the overflow. i.e. hose and clamps or pvc and glue if so what kind.

2. do you raise the skimmer off the bottom or just set it on the bottom. My sump is a 55 gal aquarium and is 23'' deep I don't know how deep the water will be until I fill everything up and see what the power off drain back level will be. the instructions that came with my skimmer says nothing about what the outside water level should be. I hate to assume that this means it makes no difference.

I have been impressed with the workmanship of this piece of equipment but unimpressed with the instructions for the set up and operations that came with it. If some-one that has one of these skimmers and can give me some advise on set up and operation I would be thankful. I would like to avoid the problems and pitfalls that come with ignorance and ignorance is something I have plenty of.

Your not trying to hook up the skimmer to be fed by water draining from the overflow are you? Anyhow, flexible hose with clamps or PVC with PVC glue and primer, either will be fine.

yes all i got was a picture that showed a line that is on the skimmer about a 3/4'' line. On the picture it shows it going to the overflow with a valve in the line. This seem more complicated than it needs to be seing how its going to be sitting in water. The only real directions i got was this picture and a flyer on replacing the impeler if you used a rio pump i chose a aqumedic pump in my case.
