would this work?

| | | | | Display 55 G Standard | | | | | |_________________________________________| | | | | | | | | _|O|_| I |_ _| I |_|O|_ | | _________________ | | | | | | | | | | | | | | |Canister | | Sump | | Canister | | 2 | |_________________| | 1 | |________| |_________| ok....shall i explain? the "I" and "O" stand for in and out. Starting with canister 1...the "I" is attached to hosing and put in the tank, and brings water from there to the canister. The "O" is attached to hosing, and placed in the sump. This goes through baffles and such , and my skimmer (no fuge, because im lazy; also the canister would make that ineffective right?). Ok. That was canister 1. Now for canister 2. The "I" is attached to hosing and is placed in the sump; water is brought from there to the canister. The "O" (attached to hosing, as usual) then puts the water back into the tank. It seems to me like this is a cheap alternative to buying a $100 overflow, and an $80 return pump (magnum 300 canister is like $60-70). Would this work do u think? or should i go with the normal route? would the canister somehow work against the skimmer or lessen my water quality? thanks! |

It seems unnecessary and why would you want to do it? Overflows are relatively inexpensive compared to 2 canister filters not mention that are trying to use canister filters for an application that they are not made for. I would have to say that you should scrap this idea and go with an overflow.

Keep it Simple Stupid If something goes wrong your display would siphon ALL THE WAY DOWN to the input of canister 1! Plus you want to pull water from the SURFACE of the display to increase the volume of water that comes in contact with the air. For a 55 you would need a 60-70 overflow and a 70-80 pump, so you are talking pennies in cost difference! |
