high alk
After setting up my second tank 60x24x24 I sufferd a white out due to Waterlife ph buff 8.3 causing calcium precipitation.
I stripped out and re filled. Aragonite substrate - 100lbs live rock, all params are acceptable except that the alk is at 13dh. calc at 400. any ideas. Flow rate 5000 ltrs ph- skimmer- wet & dry running rowafoss-salinity 33.5ppt- temp 80 - ph 8.2 - nite 0.15- niterate nil- ammo 0.25- 50% RO/ 50% tap. The reason being I syphoned off 50% of old tank water and topped up. then the white out occured so I had to quicklydo the water change. and as my R/O is only giving 20 gals per day I had no choice but to use 50/50. what would have caused the high alk? is it at a danger level and will it decrease with daily water changes. |

What was the reason you added ph buffer in the first place? Was your alkalinity too low? Ph? 13dkh, although quite high is not all that bad and I would let it come down on its own, water changes are very good way to correct chemical imbalances as well. In the future, try to test your water and calculate how much additives to put( calcium and alkalinit) in for maintanance.

I added on advice from another forum some waterlife 8.3 buffer and ended up with calcium precipitation. a complete white out. so started again from scratch. the other thread explains it better I thought I had cancelled this one, any advice is most welcome. my original tank is fine. I guesse we all come a cropper at times. |
