Lr?
my friend have about two piece of LR about 30lb and he let it set in a ice cooler with the lid close for one week. is the LR bad? can i save the LR? and if i can how.
he took the rock out of his 30g tank because he was taking it down. put it in the ice cooler with nothing but the LR in it no water or anything. and leave it in side his house. Last edited by Rp Marine; 11-14-2004 at 11:41 PM. |

I bet it STINKS!!!
Try a trash can curing method, Giant Skimmer LOTS of current. I'll bet most "critters" are long dead, but maybe the Algae can make a comeback... Don't put it in your tank until all the NH3 and NO2 are undetectable... |

the skimmer will cut down the cycle time. but so will the water changes. Just remember to test before adding to tank...

It should have stunk pretty bad if there was a lot of die off, Test the water it is in, if there is no NH3 NO2 etc... then the rock did NOT have a lot of die off, if there are toxins present then maybe your sniffer is broken!!!

Sure, it will continue to cycle in the 10 gallon tank then... Just nothing in the 10 gallon you care about until after the levels come back down... Because of how the rock was treated it may be 4-6 weeks for it to calm down enough to add anything...

Yes, it would kill critters in your LS, so I would wait. I thought you were starting from scratch on the 10 Gallon, with a dry sand. And Yes you can put fully cured live rock in your tank, depending on where you get it from. If you get it from the LFS, it is only out of the water a little while, you won't have much die off to cause a cycle. However, if you get it online, and it haas to be shipped, you may see enough die off to cause a NH3 spike...

I would spray it off with a HOSE
Make sure there is NO ODOR to the rock, and yes you can smash it up and use it for rubble. |
