I have had friends who use rubbermaid containers for sumps. What are you going to use it for? Protein skimmer, Refuge, wet to dry or what?
I have a rather big problem. After reading just a few posts on these forums I have decided that with my new tank setup I will use a sump unlike on my other setup. (we may introduce a sump on that one at a later stage but do not want to disturb it until we have some idea on how to build one!)
The problem is, my aqarium is a corner aquarium with a rather strange stand! Basically the stand inside from above is something like the attached image. (the dark areas are supports for the tank)
How can I fit a sump in their? or do I need a new stand?!
Please help, I paid £370 for the aqarium and stand!

yep just use a rubbermaid container...
I am not a failure! I have just found 10,000 ways to do it wrong!

Thinking of using it just as a Refuge and a sump, the protein skimmer will not work in their because it is the prizm hangon.

Why don't you just put your the sump/equipment of your choosing in your basement or another room? You could just buy a bigger return pump to blow it back to your tank. This kind of thing is done all of the time.Originally Posted by samsreef
I would need quite a lot of plumbing to get it right though. The ideal place would be in our garage which is a floor below my tank but is not directly under it.

Just an update. After speaking to my two local fish shops I have concluded that I will be fine with my canister filters as long as I keep them clean.
I will probably upgrade to a sump at a later stage if needed and at that stage will probably upgrade both tanks to a new filteration system I plan to setup in the garage as soon as I have saved enough money and time.
Today, (after 2 weeks of water & 1 week of live rock in the tank) I have got my first hardy fish from my local fish shop. It's a Maroon Clownfish and is in very good condition. Does anyone know anything that I should be aware of with keeping a Maroon Clownfish?

I have constructed custom sumps and refugiums for Reeflands sale in the past. Contact Reef and run it by him (I,he,we?) may be abl;e to solve your problem with a custom built unit. Need dimesions for the doors, is their a center bar between the doors and dimensions of the inside footprint of the stand.Originally Posted by samsreef
