Angry stupid emperor hang-on filter

okay heres the deal, when I first got my 55 gallon tank, I purchased an emperor filter for it, the largest one. Now when i firsst started it, it was chugging and sounded very scratchy, I added more water because there was no flow except for the trickling of the biowheel sprinkler part. It finally started working after me fiddling with it. I just recently cleaned it and put it back into the tank, it is doing the same thing, trickling, the biowheel sprinkler part is working but there is not enough flow. Its the 3rd day it has been happening and I am going to have to purchase another new filter system. This is b/s and should not be happening, my salt fish cant take it! someone help, what the hell is going on here!!?!?!?!?!?!?

Well, first Emperor filters are a MarineLand product and they have excellent customer service. Have you tried calling them?

Doublecheck that the inside piece is firmly seated and that you have the flow control lever thing all the way up. If it still doesn't work right there's probably a problem with the impeller assembly. Look for wear on the rubber boot pieces on either end of the assembly, or damage to the plastic impeller blades. You may need a replacement impeller.

Note: Penguin is just my online handle. I am in no way affiliated with the Penguin Bio-Wheel filters or Marineland Inc.

Red face ill check

thanks for the advice so far guys, i emailed marineland and complained, I was very mad. I may call them but I dont have reciepts or boxes/seriel codes because i've had it for a few months and they might ask for all that stuff. Ill check the impeller, maybe they will send me a free replacement piece.

ummm
is the flow out of the spray bar nice and strong?
are you saying that the bio wheel is hardly turning?
if that is the case you are ok... it doesnt have to turn fast to be functional,,, it just has to turn, even if slow and choppy..
also, when you took it apart to clean it, you didnt dry out the bio wheel, did you? if so you ruined all the biological that you had established on it.. if you clean the filter,, drop the bio wheel parts in the tank, so as not to kill off all the bio

Cool it finally started working

no i never fiddle with the bio-wheel and yes it was turning fine, its that the canister wasnt filling fast enough to create a good suction and flow, but it finally started working late last night so. No problems now, but we'll have to see for next time i clean it. I still havent got a response from marineland through email but now that its finally working i should be okay, thanks guys!

if you are looking for a new hang on filter try via aquait comes with uv and protein skimmer you might need 2 for a 55 but personally i dont think hang on filters cut it for a 55 (except maybe the one that amiracle makes that thing looks solid!!!
