Question Scratch removal from tank

Hi Everyone

I have come across an archived article on a featured members tank. The member recommends removing scratches from acrylic tanks with sand paper..

"1800 grit for scratches, 3000 grit for general cleaning, and 6000 grit for final cleaning and polishing. I am also here to tell you this is a ROYAL pita. But, given time, it really does work."

OK, I have the old scratch problem too.. I was sold my tank as an acrylic/glass mix here in Bangkok LOL - which means its probably pure acrylic. Does sand papering really work that well or is there some abrassion left? I'd like to hear what other members have to say about scratch removal.

Yes sandpaper will remove the Scratches, but like he said it takes TIME, and it gets worse before it gets better... That first grit really tears things up, and each successive pass smooths out the ridges.

Smile Fixing Scratches In Acrylic Tanks

Do a search in Google for a product for micro mesh. They offer a product that is much more forgiving then sandpaper. It is used also on acrylic windshields for aircraft.. Gives you an idea of the quality level associated with it..
