MRC Protein Skimmer

I have Bak Pak2 but it does not do too good of a job in my opinion. I have been looking at the My Reef Creations MRC-1 but I am not sure how will mount it to my tank??? I dont have sump.

I am looking at the Package 1 on this site.

http://www.myreefcreations.com/pspackage.htm

What do you think???
Thanks,

Austin~

Ok, I see here that you don't have a sump; didn't know that before my last post.

This will require a sump that you can set the skimmer in or connect the skimmer to. Since you do not have one you need to look into alternative options. I would suggested getting an external overflow and utilizing a sump personally; it will allow you to add some extra water volume to your system which improves stability, plus give you the space to place a nice skimmer, heaters, etc.

I will look into getting a sump then...

Can you point me in a direction to get a sump set up?

Thanks agian for all of your help. Also I ended up getting the same set up as you did for the 250W. Double ended bulb.

What kelvin bulb and brand did you pick up?

You need to find an overflow first for a sump, I would suggest looking into a LifeReef model at www.lifereef.com.

As for the box itself, this can be a standard aquarium, the largest you can fit under your tank, with a couple of partitions glued in place. They are not difficult to set up at all and a quick search on the board here should return plenty of results to research.

I've never ran a 14k, only 10k AB and Ushio and now the 20k AB's.

Could I...

...just hook up the MRC Skimmer to the overflow and not worry about the sump?

No. The skimmer has to have a strong pump feeding it and it has to release somewhere. The skimmer can be hooked up externally but not directly to the tank.

If it is hooked up externally to a sump, the pump for the skimmer must be placed into the sump and the skimmer output connected to flow back into the sump through bulkhead and preferrably flowing into the sump prior to a series of baffles that will help remove the fine bubbles the inevitably exit the skimmer.
