Z, I have tested it just like the others and like always came up with zero PO4's using two Salifert test kits.

One a side note. I broke my 5 year old dual stage Geo Reactor about 2 months ago I replaced it with a reverse flow\fluidized Hawke reactor. I can't believe the diff. On the old Geo I was doing 40-50 bubbles per minute. On this new reactor I'm doing 15-20 and seeing the same results.Less Co 2 meant higher pH so I was able to take my Kalk reactor off line.

I'm not promoting this reactor because the builder has stropped building then for a while. I'm just promoting the idea.

Hi Gene,
I don't measure the PH. I run the maximum amount of CO2 (120 bpm) through the reactor I can without getting the CO2 bubbles to break free and go out the vent. When I had only the reactor and no refugium the tank PH hung about 7.8. When I added a refugium on a reverse lighting schedule and a Kalk reactor the PH went to 8.15- 8.30 depending on the time of day. I must say I didn't see any adverse reactions by the corals when the PH was low but I felt better when it tested higher
I evaporate about 12 gals a day all of which is made up using Kalk. I also drip my output from my calcium reactor into the intake of my skimmer to help drive off any excess CO2. It is then run through a second dual Beckett skimmer before returning to the refugium to go through the plants and then return to the tank.

Regards,
Kevin

On a side note, I think that fluidized reactors show great promise. I plan to do some testing on a few different designs soon

Thanks,you guys!

Mark, I'll defiantely give that media a try as soon as my bucket of Koralith is done.My new Geo reactor is very good but lacking second chamber, if just for blowing off excess CO2. After seen all those reactors at last Year's MACNA, my head was spinning. Some were so expensive that keeping aquaria would require for me to actually go back to work.... Not if i can help it!!!!!

Kevin, I am working on making a reactor chamber for the effluent using small bottle and some media. I also plan on droping airline in there to aerate the water before exiting.
FWIW, i don't see much negative from low ph either but like you said, it would make me feel a whole lot better if it was a bit higher.

George,

Thank you! for that link. I was looking for something like this to compare certain element composition differences in Sr and Ca and Mg and all the other things that no one wants to talk about. Great stuff!

Kevin

I'm very happy with the way this reactor works. The reactor is 20" tall, made from 5" acrylic and uses a mag 5.

Z,
I'm with you on the cost. I paid 110.00 for my dual stage Geo 5 years ago. That came with the Mag 3 and MJ 1200. You can't touch one like it for twice the money these days. The new reactor cost me 160.00 + the cost of the Mag 5. I have ot admit that its one of the best built pieces of equipment I have. Larry does outstanding work.
