Sump question!

I about to purchase what i think would be the best return pump for my new sump. Im not sure what the dimensions of the sump will be yet but guessing about 36x24x24. The pump i am looking @ is a Eheim 1260/1050, any idea if this is over the top or is it not sufficent the main tank volume is 150gallons. Any help would be gratefully recieved. Thanks

What kind of overflow setup do you have?
How many of what size holes?

It's always good to check to be sure that the tank won't overflow first, I figure.

Tank size is 150 gallons ... what equipment is running in the sump?
What skimmer?
Calcium reactor? Heater? Refugium/other equipment?

I know, more questions without one answer , but in my reckoning, part is determined by what the overflows handle, part by what the equipment in the sump really needs in terms of turnover.

If just to run water thru the sump - IMO there's better ways of getting the flow you would want without the overflow/etc noise /pump-energy.

For pure water movement in a tank, I've been won by the more efficient Tunze Streams or Seios [Seios are from Taam, maker of Rio, but `seem to be reliable', 7 months on mine but still slightly concerned]. Both run very low wattage, deliver great, wide flow patterns. Yes, they are cords in the tank.

Anyway ... I'm sure more, contrasting opinions can chime in and you can figure out something that fits your tank `just right'.

I have a single wier setup, one hole (49mm.) In the sump i will have a heater only and magic mud (three chamber sump) eventually an automatic RO topup system, calcium reactor etc etc. Definatly want to use a sump, so i need to confirm how much water needs to be returned would the third chamber run dry with that pump?
