Aquafuge Lighting

Hi All,

I have an aquafuge on the back of my tank with a Jalli fixture. I want to light it 24/7 but the light bleeds into the tank and its in my bedroom, so I want to not have a glaring "night light". I'm planning on painting the front and side pannels of the fuge with some black rustoleom and then draping a black cloth over the top to cover the inch or so between the top of the fuge and the light on the front and sides. Does this sound like a good idea?

Thanks,
Todd

Hi Todd,

I don't see any problems with that. It's just going to be covering the 'fuge correct? Can you uncover it daily to make sure to allow proper gas exchange? If not I don;t think it would be a proble, just over the fuge but optimally, I would uncover it during the day.

I have an Aquafuge as well and am experiencing the same problem. I am planning on painting the Aquafuge black as well as painting the back of my aquarium black. I will be moving soon so this will not be a problem for me.

I am also considering building a plexiglas "hood" for my Jalli light. It would be painted black and cover the space between the Aquafuge and the tank. This would require cutting the plexiglas to fit the Aquafuge tank mounts but should be pretty easy.

Of course, IF my wife lets me get the 90g tank that I want I will have a ref under the tank. But I do not see that happening. Something about furniture that she wants, Ok, I admit it...... She has the final say in so called Home Improvements (although I will be getting a RO/DI when we get the house!!
