Looking to buy hang-on refugium

Looking to buy a hang-on refugium for my tank (due to space constraints and the fact that it is a corner aqarium I cant get any other type)

I dont seem to be able to find any makes in the uk!? I have seen a few for sale in the US that ship to the UK but they use different power sockets for the pump.

Do you think I should be able to just use a standard power head instead of the one provided if I order from US?

I think so. The CPR I bought has a rio junk that came with it and from what I can tell you can plug other powerheads into it if you wanted just so long as their outlet will fit into the space they provide. If not I'm sure you could find a fitting of some sort at a hardware store.

Thanks Samper, I think I will go ahead and order one then. I will let you know what happens lol!

Speaking of refugiums am I right in thinking that you just have to have macro algae, LR & live sand + good lighting?

Is yours hang on? If so do you have a photo of what it looks like on your tank? Im trying to decide which side I want to put it & what it looks like. Btw are they any good?

Hi samsreef,I have a hang-on refugium that came with a Rio.I have a 125 tank in the wall which developed a leak about 8 months ago. When I changed out the tank to an Oceanic.I removed the acrylic bracket from the refugium and set the refugium on the ledge behind my tank.I tried a couple different power heads untell I was happy with the flow rate.Refugiums do not need much flow. The pump is in my sump located about three feet below my refugium. The reason I dont hang my refugium on the tank is the concern I have about the stress It might be puttin on the back of my aquarium.Changing out an aquarium located in a wall is a major task.

You don't need good lighting over a fuge. I have a 28w coralife 50/50 light over mine set to run on a reverse lighting schedule via a timer. I think I might use a regular flourescent fixture with a plant bulb in it sometime in the near future though cause I'm not sure the 50/50 is a good idea for the macroalgae. I think poseidon might use something similar to what I just described.

Here is a top Pic. As was stated you do not need good lighting. I have my 18w light on a reverse system as compared to my 4X96w pc bulbs. Anyway, here is the top pic!
