Thinking about gettin a Ph meter

I was thinking of getting a Ph meter but I keep tossing it around if it is actually necessary for me to get one. I currently use Salfert test to test my Ph and what I wanted to ask you all is if it is actually necessary to get one or should I spend my $$ on something else.

I don't think it's absolutely necessary but I couldn't live without mine. I check it no less than 10 times per day and have now gotten down to a science when to drip limewater and when my refugium lighting should be on. I have greatly reduced the swing that takes place during different times of the day just by watching the monitor and figuring out how to combat the swing accordingly.

I use a Pinpoint.

They are probbaly more accurate than a manual test and if you are using a CA Reactor, I would consider it a necessity. Otherwise, it's probbaly more of a convenience.

i had one until the probe needed replacement and just sold the unit off.

if the tank is stable up and running for a few years, then i do not think they are all that useful..basically you will see the same reading day in and day out.

but, like what was mentioned, if you add anything that can cause fluctuations then constant readings may be advisable. i have a FO setup and just look to keep it within a range 8.2-8.4
