Sump in Basement

I have noticed from this and other sites, that some reefers place their sumps in the basement. They run plumbing up to the tank using a high demand pump.

I like the idea of removing alot of the tank paraphanlia to my basement (and also moving part of my spillage potential to a less risky location). My question concerns plumbing "gravity". If I were to run plumbing to my basement it would have to travel through an extra floor (approxiamtely a 30 foot vertical drop). I am assuming that it is highly unlikely, given the vertical lift, that I would be able to get a pump strong enough to deliever 600 - 700 GPH back into the tank (obviously water travels through the house at that level - but not at a high throughput).

I would appreciate any input which would either validate or refute my assumption.

Thanks.

Depending on how much you want to spend, I am sure you could do it! Remember though adding that much plumbing increases the chances to get a leak somewhere along the way. If you look at some 1/2 or 3/4 HORSEPOWER jacuzzi pumps I'll bet they can move the water you want, but you sure did just add a LOT OF COST!!!

Good point - I guess any challenge can be overcome given enough resources. The issue becomes does the benefit justify the expenditure. By the way, I see that you were also smart enough to stay out of the political discussions on this site. I had not idea that Reefland was such a hotbed of radicalism - lol
