Wet/dry filters

I have a wet/dry system with 2 overflow boxes and over sized skimmer with plenty of live rock in the sump. I use a Micron sheet on top of a floss pad in the drip tray and bio balls under it. I guess the question is how often should I change / clean this micron sheet. Im kind of new to the wet /dry filter I do keep a very tight eye on my water quality and what do you recommend on how often of water changes. I have been doing them like every 2 weeks

Gizmo232,

All mechanical filtration media should really be cleaned as often as you can. As they get dirtier they release the nutrients and other material as the organic matter is broken down mechanically and biologically.

About the water changes... I don't know There are experienced reef keepers who basicly never change any water and then there are equally succesful hobbyists who change 20% every week And naturally everyone says their way is the only way

I would slowly remove the Bio Balls. Maybe 10 per week. These do not help your system at all and most likely help increase nitrates. If you are running a skimmer that is somewhat efficent there is no reason for you to have a Wet/Dry.

Either go with a DSB or Bare bottom tank and good skimming and you should be fine. Of course you will need a good amount of quality live rock..
