    Sump/Refuge.........

I am installing my 29 sump today and was wondering if it would be wise to go with plain extremely fine sand, or I have also heard of MM, which way should I go, and how deep should the bed be/ Also anything else you think I should take into consideration....

    Sorry MM?

I have some gravel in my sump, but I think a relatively shallow sand bed of fine sand would be much better. In my next one, I think 1 bag of southdown, in a 29 gallon tank is where I am going to be...

MM=Miracle Mud, thats how I have seen a few other people refer to it, maybe it is wrong, not sure.

So the sump/refug needs only a shallow sandbed, I did not know this. I was planning on another DSB in there . Also my post reads wrong, I am not getting the sump up and running today, I am constructing it, my bad. I am going by this article

    http://www.sjpdesigns.com/NewReef/sumphowto.htm

Is this design pretty accurate, is their anything I should add or remove?

    linuxguru,

You should incorporate 3 baffles before the return pump as I mentioned in your other thread. Placing just 1 baffle and your most likely asking for headaches with microbubbles in the display...

For your fuge, I think going with another small DSB along with some live rock rubble would be a great idea. I have never using the Miracle Mud but I can assure you it's no miracle.

    Thanks Scott,

So would the design I provided with the link be good if I add 2 sets of 3 baffles each under, over, under........both right after the protein skimmer, and right before the return pump? Is it that simple?

I also decided to go with the MyReef MR-2 and a Mag 12 return with a CPR 1400gph dual bulkhead overflow, where would I be able to find some spray bars so I could incorporate the return flow into 4 different channels into the tank.

    Good choices!!!

Spraybars are definately a DIY project, however you could use sea swirls on 2 outputs and get some really nice random flow patterns... Maybe put a sea swirl 1 ft from each end then they could rotate around and give broader coverage...
