Sump Question

I've got a quick sump question. I am in the planning process for a sump, and have made the determination that I will be limited to a 20 gallon sump if I place the sump within my stand.

My tank is set-up adjacent to a large closet. In terms of a quick "does this make sense" test - would it be practical to route the plumbing behind the tank, through the wall, and into the closet. My thought was that I could add a larger sump, have more working room, and muffle some of the noise. It would add some horizontal distance to the configuration (probably no more than six feet).

I have the Lifereef single overflow, and was planning on a Mag 9 return pump - would I need a larger pump due to the added distance? Thanks.

Chuck,

I think it would be great if you could do that. You'll certainly need to bump up on the return pump but not by very much, MAG-12/18 should be just fine to push 6'. Probably MAG 18 and a ball valve (to trottle it down if need be) would be jsut right for the job. Added benefit of a larger sump with perhaps refugium area in it outwegh any extra expense for the pump, IMHO.
