    new small setup

my girlfriend would like to keep a pair of juvvy clowns and maybe a boxfish, so we have bought a new small tank for her to setup.

we are going to fill the tank with water from our main tank. Does this mean that the tank wont have to cycle?

    thanks

    phil

Having some form of substrate (liverock) that has established bacteria colonies is more important that aged water.

You may want to reconsider putting a boxfish in "a small tank." Here is a link to some general information. Please note the adult size of the species that is commonly available: http://www.wetwebmedia.com/boxfishes.htm

What are you going to use for filtration in this new tank? Will it have any live rock?

It will cycle. The only question is how long that will take. If you are going to use some fully cured live rock, it won't take as long as it would if you used uncured live rock. If you are going with no live rock at all, then it will depend on how long it takes the beneficial bacteria to become established in your filter.

    hello thanks for the help

the filtration at first will be mainly liverock fully cured from my lfs mixed with bits from our main tank. Also a seaclone protein skimmer from the main tank as i have purchased a new deltec jobbie

I am looking to build a sump for it as i have a small tank which is not doin anything and have the perfect space for it under the new setup.

thanks for the link ninong we shall leave the boxfish as they seem to be a bit tricky to say the least. (a shame though they are so amazing)

    thanks again

    phil

ps how do i post piccys here?
