It's a little rough on size so i will summerize it on the back of the tank i have a Hangoverfilter at 300GPH the i was thinking of 2 84GPH powerheads on the back, maybe aiming downwards, then i have 2 175GPH powerheads i was going to place on the sides aiming inwards. the black splotchs are the liverock in the tank now around 20lbs for now. I have all these powerheads now i'm just looking for a good way to place them.

Consider going with all Maxi-Jet powerheads which are very realiable and push about 250gph.

I too would suggest MaxiJets, and powerheads maybe pushing 200-300 gph. Given all of these are reef fish, with significant water movement in the wild - they should be fine. [I run a pair of the 295gph ones, and a pair of 820gph powerheads in my 58g tank ... stony-coral focused, thus the flow ... but my fish are fine with it]

I often `bank' the output off the glass to move along the rockwork and keep some movement in the lower areas of the tank to avoid build-up of detritus. Have the flow coming thru/under/around the rockwork as well as having the outputs `cross' often seems to work well in my mind.

I dunno if that helps, ask more questions and we'll see

I have a 55gal and I'm running 2-Maxi Jet 1200's (290gph ea.) and a Mag 7 (700gph @ 0') hooked to a scwd from my sump/refugium. It's more than enough flow for my tank.

I have a 55g with built in overflow. The main pump is a MAG7. I am using three MJ1200's for circulation and they are attached to a Red Sea Wavemaker. I cannot say enough about the Maxi Jet Powerheads. They are great when it comes to power and considering that I am cycling them on and off every minute they cannot be beat. As far as I am concerned there is no other powerhead.

Get the MJ's HERE From Premiom Aquatics! Great supplier and Great customer service!

Do you still favor maxi jet powerheads? I have 2 aquaclear 4000 powerheads and i am getting The Natural Wave timed strip. do the maxi still hold up with the cycling on and off?

I like the Hagen pumps just as much as I do the Maxi-Jets. The Maxi-Jets will run a bit quieter on a wavemaker versus the Hagen ones though. You will hear a slight clatter when the Hagen pumps turns on for the first second.

I have both Hagen and Maxi-Jets, the maxi's are a little smaller is all.

I had an 802 that I used as my all purpose pump for over 10 YEARS, it was running my chiller until I just recently let the smoke out....

(Everything that plugs into the wall must run on smoke, because once you let the smoke OUT, it won't work anymore! )

WOW this is an OLDIE too!
