Question Rio Seio - any good?

Any thoughts on the Seio pumps by Taam?

I've started to see a few powerhead meltdown horror stories about the Seio pumps. I had a Rio 600 spew oil and die, but it was fortunately only serving as a mixing pump for water changes.

I've had good luck with mine, one is about 11 months, the other about 9 [820's].

Given they are supposedly oil-less, that certainly makes me a little happier. In my tank, I tend not to have a lot of precipitation issues with pumps, which might help me out a bit as it seems like the shaft of these is pretty tight/small and that might kill impellers a little more than other ph's.

I dunno, all I can really say is that mine are doing great at nearly a year. I'm quite happy with the flow, and while someone might be able to `told ya so' me in the future ... I guess I'm rolling the dice and have seen/read nothing that makes me pull them out of the tank.

I have two 820's and I am thinking of getting a third, so far I really like them, I have had the two ofthem for about two months and they seem to work great. I have had a rio 3100 blow up on my though, but it is acompletely different design.

I went with the Tunze's simply for the extra gph they provide. I use the "uncontrollable" 6060's and are pleased with them. Now I know you didn't ask about the Tunze but I wanted to provide a different option.

The magnet on Rio Seio 820 is beginning to frag into slivers. As pieces of magnet fall off they jam up the turbine and stop the pump. Not very cool... I have only been running it for two months

That isn't cool at all. After all the "old" problems with Rio's, I have a hard time trusting them at all, even the new ones.
