What to do with this All-glass 180gal bowfront?

...I got this tank at auction. It has never been used but is damaged with a nick in the corner of the glass. No problem there, but the store that had it was going to replace the side panel with the nick and CUT the bracing.Geez, what a PIA,for more selling power.Anyway,I have never owned a reef ready and I am ignorant as to what type of plumbing the two holes in each over-flow get and where to buy them?Anyone have experience with this sort of thing?

Mickey,

First things first. Have you set up the tank full of water to ensure it is stable and will not break on you? I would set it up on a stand outside and fill it with water and let it sit for a week or so and observe it very closely.

Scott,

.......I would not fill this thing without the bracing....right?Can you tell where it has been cut?I was going to put some turn-buckles on it but decided to go with the oak trim anywayIt is still placed,in pics, where I put it a week ago

It's difficult to see where the damage is in the pictures. Is this an acrylic or a glass tank? Do you have any local manufacturers that you could take it to for an expert opinion?

Red face

..Scott,this is a 180gal glass bowfront with the brace (trim work, top and bottom) has been cut, ready to take off the glass. This trim will offer no support,(that I see) now.I am not worried about the integrity of the glass to glass bonds, just the bracing, support, ever which one it is called.Would it be wise to fill this thing with this situation? The best expert in my neck of the woods....Is e I am just at a loss as to how much support this trim work offers?

It offers more support than you think. So it is just the bottom center brace that has been cut? I definitely wouldn't fill it up until some kind of additional bracing can be used.

Send a message via ICQ to saltjunkie
out of the fish magazines, you should be able to buy the formed bracing for that thing.. i even used to sell the stuff at the LFS i worked for...

call the MFG, ask them for a retailer nearby who can sell the bracing for your tank..

Well it took,what,,,,,,,,six-months for me to get back around to this thing..... I kept getting the run-around with the support/trim so I JB welded the damn thing and filled it Thursday.Holding...No stress on the cross-bars but now I am going to take those things out and replace with clear plexiglass
.............I really have no idea as to what innerds to get for the internal overlow partitions??????HELP Now that brings me to the sump.I don't want a sump in the living-room.This tank is going to have an open frame, constructed out of H-beam with glass block inserts.I don't want to cover up the tile job I just did I can run the sump from my office which is about 15' as the PVC travels,Or Run two canister filters with high-pressure pumps....Can you Guys' please help me out here?I want to get this thing set up Then we can tackle the lights:slap:
...............................Thanks for reading this

MegaFlow

you can purchase a megaflow overflow kit by ALL-GLASS Aquariums from Dr. Foster & Smith that comes with all the plumbing needed for one overflow. You will need one kit for each overflow if you have two in the tank. They are about 49.00 each and may also be available at your local aquarium store.
