what pump

i'm seting up a mini bow 7 with the back drill for a bulk head for my overflow that will lead to my 10 gallon sump/fuge. i need help with what kind of power head i should use as a return and enough overhead for good current for the display thank. the distance is about 2 feet.

here is how my setup should look

what your think about aquaclear power head. i'm thinking about getting a aquaclear 70 that have a rate of 400 gph

I would use a pump and not a powerhead. I like the MAG Drives and therefore would recommend at 5 with a ballvalve for flow adjustment.

The only noise I get off mine is it rattling against the sump-bottom. [which can be dampened]

A Mag [IMO] is a good solution.

Skip the AC70, I have one on my chiller and it works okay, because there is not much head pressure. I will eventually upgrade to a MAG 5, or 7. I think the powerhead would be a total bust for your application.

Oh ya, I have 2 MAG 12's now and they are VERY QUIET, so I think a MAG 5 would be almost silent!

similar question

Not to hijack this thread, but I am in a similar situation....

I recently moved to a new home and am taking the opportunity to drill my 55gal whilst it's still empty. I plan to add a dwarf lion to this FOWLR and know that good flow will be critical. My schematic is identical to the above.

My questions are these:
1.) Where should I drill the tank, keeping in mind convenience and utility of application (FOWLR w/ dwarf lion)

2.) Which of the mags should I use? Will a Mag7 be enough flow? I like the MAG's, but how about a cheap RIO for the return?

3.) While my tank is empty I have all my LR and sand in rubbermaids with good flow and skimming. My sand is in a 5 gallon bucket filled about 3/4 to the top. How long will it take the sand to go aerobic with such a depth and will this be detrimental to my overall plan of a quick re-cycle once I move back to the display tank.

EDIT: Not to sound like I haven't done my homework, here's what I'm considering:
Location- a drilled hole in the left wall of the tank near the top and centered
Overflow- A PVC bulkhead to T adapter to PVC pipe to sump (with on/off valve under the T.
Size- a hole that will accomodate a 1" bulkhead (Drilling glass tanks TOTW 1-24-05)
Return- MAG 7
