Best single light for 30G FOWLR

Hello again,

Hope you won't mind another basic "beginners" question. I have a 30G tall tank, which came to me (free) with a single ballast that holds an 18 inch bulb. It currently has a Coralife Actinic bulb in it. My tank is FOWLR.

So....what do you think is the best bulb for such a set up as mine? Is there a better choice to keep the fish and LR happy? How long should it run each day? As I look around at various lighting suppliers there seems to be an endless variety of lighting choices to choose from. Help!!!

Well....off to the pharmacy! Check in with ya later! THANKS!!!

Jason

You might be able to swap that out for a 50/50 since you allready have a ballast for it. Give the tank about 8-10 hours of light a day

If all you want to keep is FOWLR, then a nice 50/50 bulb would look nice. Otherwise look into T5, and get at least 2 bulb fixture 1 white and 1 blue, that should be pretty good for most LPS. (Large Polyp Stoney) If you want the fuzzy sticks, (SPS, small polyp stoney) then you will have to look at Metal Halides, or LOTS of T5's! Just keep reading and do a search here for "lighting" that should keep you busy for a while!!!

I would consider trying to go with some VHO, PC or T-5 lighting for the tank. Some of the life on the rock may benefit from the additional lighting intensity and the fish colors will appear more brilliant than ever!
