SeaClone Skimmer mods?

Has anyone tried to make adjustments to their Sea Clone skimmer? I read a couple of articles about it and one of the things mentioned is to cut the small inner tube where the air bubbles come up through. The idea is to allow more room for the bubbles to react with the water. I was just wondering if anyone has had any success with this and how it was done. I haven't been able to take my skimmer apart and it feels like I will break it if I do.

I havent looked at a seaclone in a while so forgive me for not remembering, but could you stick an airline right down the top of the skimmer where the skimmate comes out, thus not having to cut anything? If so it may obstruct a little from the path of the bubbles but I think it would still allow a bit more air to compensate for the obstruction?
