Whats this used 75Gal setup worth?
I've been out of the hobby for a while, 6-7 years or so. Found this used setup for sale some what close to me. Seller is asking $500 for it. Everything in the aquarium has been moved to a new tank, live sand goes w/ the sale. I have no idea what any of this stuff is worth anymore, just wondering if this seems like a good deal and everything is upper quality parts. I do have a 90 gallon that would fit the stand/hood. Would the rest of this setup filtration, pumps, etc be good enough for a 90? TIA!
Here's the details- 75 gallon tank, oak stand, oak canopy with reef lighting(new bulbs) ballasts and a Quiet One 3000 return pump,Sterilizer, Sea swirl for sale. The lighting consists of 4 Power compacts at 96watts per bulb. That gives a total of 5.1 watts per gallon, you could basically keep any corals you want to. The lighting was $400 new. The sea swirl, sterilizer, extra pump, and the Quiet One 3000 will be given away with the tank. The stand, canopy and the lighting are a year old which was bought new. No imperfections with stand, canopy. I bought the tank used, it has 2 small scrathes in the glass near the bottom of tank. The whole filter setup is also for sale within the listed price. The sump is a Pro Clear and will come with the drain hose, overflow box and U tube, rio 600 pump for the Excalibur skimmer. So a complete reef setup from top to bottom for $500. ![]() |

looks like a nice enough set up... i dont think you could keep anything with those lights.. still very good start to a light set up..
a decent skimmer and pum costs a couple hundred.. a decent stand is 150- 200 bucks.. i wouldnt use a sterilizer on a reef.. but yet it is still worth something.. it seems like a decent enough deal to start with.. the only thing that would hold me back fro mthat deal.. is the size and capacity of the sump.... its prolly worth it if everything is running and working.. (if you get it, id buy new light bulbs though... just to be sure of age on them..)

Hi Mud,
![]() I agree with having to buy new bulbs since the current ones are a year old. Offer $400 with this justification. ![]() |

Hi Mud
![]() Im with Scott.....$400 seems like a fair price to offer. If he starts bickering about how its worth more just tell him you might have to redo the lights, sump, etc etc.

I said screw it. I had a 90g setup before, i'm not gonna be happy w/ that. Need something bigger. I really want a new tank on my first floor. I have a open wall about 13' where I have a steel beam running the length of the house right under it. I'm thinking i'll probably put one post in the basement right below where i want the tank just for some extra support.
I seen a 300 gallon on ebay that i really liked. 120x24x24. A wider tank should distribute the weight better. What i'm trying to figure out now is am I going to be spending alot more on lighting to cover 120x24x24 versus lighting for 300 that 96x24x31. Longer tank has 4 more sq foot aquascaping... I want the capability to have more than adequate lighting for whatever. I want to make sure i do it right the first time. Cost if a factor, I dont have unlimited funds like some people do, but i'll be getting off a $700/month car payment next month that will free up monthly income for this hobby. If there's a substantal price increase one way or the other...thats going to influence my tank dimensions decision. Anyone have any input on these 2 tank sizes? pro/cons one way or the other? TIA! I like the 120" better than that taller tank. It will take more lighting (an additional fixture) but it will be easier to maintenance and won't require 400w bulbs to penetrate the water to the bottom of the tank (that is if your planning for clams and sps). 5-250w halides would work real well over the 120" tank.
