I thought someone might get a good yuck out of this:
I've been super paranoid about any kind of overflow. I've tested, turned off pumps, stopped siphons, observed, rinse and repeat. As some of you may know, I just got things flowing the way I want to. It's a thing of beauty as far as I'm concerned. The only thing I was lacking was a skimmer. I have an old one, but I need to pick up new one (Aqua-C hang-on).
Well, it's taking me a little longer to get the skimmer than planned. So I hooked up the old one, made room and just sort of rigged it up. It's an old bulky hang-on that I have set up in the sump. I didn't have any suction cups for the powerhead and the hose didn't quite reach the bottom of the sump. So the powerhead is just sort of hanging there.
Can you see where this is going?
So I'm sitting on the computer browsing old threads on this very site, when I hear the distinct sound of seawater hitting hardwood. Yes, the weight of the powerhead pulled the hose off of the skimmer and sent water flying out of the sump, onto my front room floor and into the kitchen. I guesstimate that I lost about 8 gallons onto my floor before I realized what was happening.
Moral of the story:
IF YOUR GONNA DO IT, DO IT RIGHT THE FIRST TIME!!!!!!
On the plus side, at least I got a decent water change in.![]()
