    Heavy-duty light timer

My old timer gave out, and I want to get another one. I'm a bit paranoid about it melting after I saw the blackened remains of a cheap and obviously inadequate one (not mine). I want it to last. What do all you guys (& girls) with really intense MH lighting use, and where did you make your purchases?

Just tell your wife that having a tank teaches you all sorts of new DIY skills...which will save lots of money around the house...so you can buy more stuff for your tank...so you can learn more skills...

I look for two things when I buy a timer; a three prong grounded plug and the UL listing.

I buy them at the local hardware store.

Intermatic makes good cheap digital ones. I got mine for 19 bucks at Lowes.
Here is the link to the ones I use.

I have always used the simple grouded timers from Wal-Mart and never had a problem with them.

....now, if they'd only make a timer that doesn't block half the outputs in the surge protector or power strip!

Hmmm... now that the tank is full, I could convert the pool to saltwater...

Thanks, guys! I guess the melt-down was an isolated incident.
