Best Algae for My Sump

I'm looking for a good algae for my sump. My sump has a bed of Miracle Mud and I'm looking for an algae or filtering plant (besides mangrove) that will take root in the mud.

If you want it to take root I'd suggest Caulerpasertulariodes but if you don't care then go with Chaetomorpha. Both are very aggressive growing macro algaes and i keep both in my refugiums. The Caulerpa grows faster so it needs to be thinned out more. The Chaeto needs to tumble and just makes a big ball.

I also keep Gracilarus but it's more for looks IMO because it doesn't grow that fast.

I think chaeto is getting to be the macro of choice anymore. Some caulerpas tend to release toxins back into the tank after pruning.

A species of Caulerpa if you want something that will 'root' into the substrate, Chaetomorpha if that is not that important.

I also recommend the Chaetomorpha.

I wish I could use chaetamorpha but having a sumpless tank creates the problem of it getting sucked into all the intakes, but otherwise I would say that would be my first choice.

Caulerpa sertulariodes grows more aggressively from what I've seen.

I use Chaeto and it does NOT tumble, I just roll it over myself once a week or so. I have a HUGE ball of it, about the size of a basketball, well not quite that big, but bigger then a volleyball...

I think it works well.
