foam pad around riser tube on skimmer
Most skimmers come with a foam pad that goes around the riser tube. This pad on my skimmer helps keep noise levels down and minimizes splashing but it traps stuff on and in it. It's not much gunk but seing how sponges like this are notorious for getting dirty and causing problems I thought I'd ask...What is the best way to get it clean when I do clean it. Do you guys even use them on your skimmers?

I would just clean it regularly. Remove it to the sink where you can easily rinse and wring it to liberate the debris. I find those style of skimmers to be too noisy without the sponge. But, if you can tolerate it, removing it permenantly is fine as well.
