Whether or not that pump is saltwater safe is questionable. It may rust away if you try to use it.
So I'm cleaning out my garage and what do I see? A forgotten 1hp Hayward Pump from my old pool. I plugged it in and its not too loud. Can I/should I attempt to use this thing. It would solve all of my flow problems. I could use it to create a system that powers my skimmer, my returns, my reactor....everything. It almost seems to good to be true, so I'm gonna wait for someone to tell me that it is.
By the way, it's a 150gal tank.

I think it will be worth experimenting with wether it rusts away or not. I'm gonna try and come up with a PVC system that provides 3 returns, a line for my skimmer and a line for a reactor. I figure I could use valves to control the amount of flow to the skimmer and reactor.
Anyone have an estimate of how many gph that thing would push?
I would test run it on something other than you display to see if it rusts. Or, try tracking down the manufacturer and asking them if it is saltwater safe.
If there are parts on the inside that rust, you risk leaching nasties into the tank.
Ok The Hayward 1HP Power Flo comes in (2) Flavors:
Normal and the X15.
The normal produces 5160GPH @ 10' of Head Pressure![]()
The X15 Produces 5460GPH @ 10' of Head Pressure
That comes out to about 34.4 times turnover in a 150. The Hayward website doesn't say if the pump is rated for Salwater, however it says the Casing and the seals are corrosion resistant. The Impeller is Nylon, and I would imagine that the impeller shaft is Stainless Steel. Which would corrode over time, but it could be a long time.
When I was in high school, I got in trouble with my girlfriend's Dad. He said, " I want my daughter back by 8:15." I said, "The middle of August? Cool!"
I would not use it till you have the A-Ok from Hayward, after that, I think it would be cool to have a single pump run everything for you. Heck it may even be cheaper on the ole Powerbill too. THat is something else to consider though, cause it May NOT be cheaper, and you end up with a HUGE bill!
Hmmmm.... when I convert the pool to an outdoor saltwater aquarium, I'll have to ensure that the pump has a nylon impeller....
Bubba
Hmmm... now that the tank is full, I could convert the pool to saltwater...

Whoa. I don't think my overflows could handle that. I may have to add 2 more. Thanks for scooping up that info. I'm still gonna contact the company and get more details though. I'll post what I find out.Originally Posted by Meric
Ya, the part of the plackard that gives amps is scratched off. That information will need to be found out. As it is, I have 5 seperate powerheads running and I still don't have the flow I want/need. I'm definately going to have to invest in a couple Tunze's at some point if this doesn't work.Originally Posted by Poseidon
