Basement Sump
Okay, here it goes.
I am PLANNING a basement sump for my 90. I am planning on using a Rubbermaid tub for the majority of the volume, I think it is 100 gallons full, so figure 70 gallons actual. I will work my 30 into the system as a dedicated fuge, and of course my skimmer will be external again, where it seemed to work much better for some reason. Anyway, on to the part where I have no experience. First, my total head I expect to be less then 10ft vertical, I will raise the tub from the floor to accomplish this. However I will have a horizontal run of about 12 ft. How much does this affect the return? Second, I plan on using my existing overflow, a CPR 102 (I think) it has 2 1" drains, and is rated @ 1200 GPH max. Can I combine the 2 1" PVC into a single 1.5" pipe, (using a 1.5" T and a couple of 90's with reducers) and not reduce flow? Third, if I want to keep a flow of 900GPH or so, what would a good pump choice be? Should I buy a single LARGE pump, and t it off to run the skimmer, or just keep the MAG12 on it? Sorry for the long post, but I want to get this right the first time! |

The two 1" drains lines should be ok to feed into one 1 1/2" drain.
I would keep the skimmer on its own pump. I have found it too hard to fine tune with a large pump and a manifold. |

Iwaki is my usual go-to pump for external applications.

I'm running a Sequence 4300SEQ20 pump from my basement sump. Great pump and really quiet.

LOL!!! Woot! I have one of those, well actually 2, so I should be all set!
I am thinking Sequence Dart, or maybe a blueline... I have a line on a blueline pump, I'll bet I could get cheap. The dart is really low wattage and I think I could save some cash on the power bill to boot. |

Still in planning stages, I have purchased some PVC, but no actual work done yet.
I think I will be purchasing most of the neccessary equipment before I begin. That equipment are things like new skimmer, UV, possible Ozone, and of course a big ole pump. ![]() |
