    A bit of Insanity....

    so...

i had this idea for a new kind of water pump. Don't know if this is the best place to post this though....

    any way here's my idea.

Remember, i know it'll sound crazy....

Take your fish tank. Make it a bottom drilled tank, with the refugium and other goodies underneath. Then off the refugium make a special tank.

This tank has a single hole on one side near the bottom of the tank, so this tank will always act as a reservoir that can be drained if th water in the refugium or sump is low.

Then take and place an under gravel filter in this tank. Put a layer of crushed coral down, but then cover over with a layer of Silica Sand.
In Place of the standard plastic tube on the undergravel filter use a glass tube.

    now for the craziness.

Take an electrical cord. Add a adaptor so your putting DC current through this 'pump'. take the positive wire and soder a capaciter to it. make sure this capacitor is no where near the water....

Then some where after you've done this take a graphite disc. solder to positive end, below the capacitor.

next step on negative end solder a thin graphite rod.

put the disc at the bottom of the undergravel filter, just as if it were an air hose.

basically this would act as a Ionic breeze for your fish tank, but only in the small reservoir...

If you used an adjustable capacitor and experimented with some resistors, you may even be able to get a water pump that doesn't put the water through electrolysis, but is still capable of breaking down certain harmful chemicals (sulfides, and such.)

    any way....

just a bit of craziness. seriously though don't try it with fish....

I was wondering why you would go through all that trouble... wouldn't it be easier to just stand in your tank and stick a wire coat hanger in the electical socket?

Hmmm... now that the tank is full, I could convert the pool to saltwater...

I like the coat hanger idea!

In principle the graphite electrocutor sounds pretty cool... If not for the electrocuting! (Sp?)

Boy, had I read that at 2am on Sunday Morning I probably would have tried it. That insane after trying to get my fluval back online. That thing will drive me to the nut house one of these days---just hope I can afford to replace it before it does.
