Pls Share your experience on this one

Hi

I was wondering can i add in sand to my current setup .
Current setup is 5x2x2.5 ( rocks + some lps ) fishes are , tangs , clownfishs.

Do you think i can do some addition of sand to my currently barebottom setup ? If can what is the best possible approach ?

Reason for adding is , i want the tank to have that sand feel / look , as my barebotton have lots of uncover bottom( i did not fill my tank with rocks ) it does look ugly ...

please comments ...

regards
Mman

Sure you can...

Be sure to rinse the sand before. I would add it a small amount at a time and let it settle... check everything and then add some more a few days later.

In fact you may even want to rinse it, thne put some in a large bowl and add some water from your tank, then move it into the tank.

Just don't go dumping in a full bag and you should be fine.

Just take it slow and you should be good to go.

Just my opinion, maybe some others here can give you some additional advice.

Well your gonna have to remove some water to add some sand anyway, so use it to condition your sand "after it is rinsed and assuming you are not adding live sand".

That should help to negate any ill effects from adding the sand.

I would still do it in moderation as you have live stock in the tank and you want to minimize the impact on them.

If will of course be cloudy, but take your time and you can minimize that as well.

I think just to get it wet, the problem here is this makes the sand "clumpy" and difficult to add slowly. I would use a long piece of PVC pipe that could reach to the bottom of the tank and slowly pour a little sand through it into the tank. This will help you direct where the sand lands and might mitigate some of the cloud. Of course, this would have to be dry sand.

Hi .. all thanks .....

i have just dump in 3 packets of sand into my tank last weekend. well .. i decide to wash the sand and as advice , i remove some water then rinse it over the washed sand , next , i use a container and scope some sand and slowly lower the container into the tank and tilt it to drop the sand onto the bottom ... by doing this it is tedious but it really reduces the risk of making the water cloudy .. hehehe..

so far my tank looks better with sand now ... yeah !!!
