trying to justify $$$ for turbelle stream or go closed loop?

still can`t decide on the 6000 turbelle stream, cheaper seio 860 or try to do closed loop.

Is it really hard to build a closed loop for a 75 gallon?

I would need a list of all the pipes and fittings and what pump would be best.

don`t want to drill so a hang on would be my only option.

or is closed loop worth the work?

If you dont want/cant drill the tank, a Tunze stream or seio would probably be a better choice. Personally I like the controlable streams. Not only do you get a nice wide flow pattern that flow is random and adjustable to your tanks needs. Random flow is better than steady flow.

Deciding between the two really just depends on your budget. Deciding how big of pump just depends on what Animals you want to keep...

I agree with Treg. I tried to do a hang on closed loop and failed badly at it. I decided to go with the Tunze Streams. Although ours aren't controllable, they are money well spent.

Do you have a sump on this 75 gal? If not I'd get a sump even if it's a glass tank or a Rubbermaid tub. You'd have to get a siphon overflow if drilling is out of the question.

This would be an excellent upgrade if you do not already have this. Put all your equipment in the sump and you would want a decent size pump. Your plumbing would go from the pump back up to the tank.

I'm just assuming that you don't have a sump already. To make a slower transition to this I would first buy an adequate pump and plumb it to your tank now just for circulation until you do get an overflow. Once you have an overflow you can throw a sump (whatever it may be) in your stand and connect your pump and you’re good to go.

FWIW...We decided to go with the closed loop. I did not like the bulkiness of the tunzes. We drilled one 2" hole for the intake and used (2) 3/4" sea swirls on the returns. This minimized the holes drilled and the bulkiness inside of the tank. We used the Sequence dart for the pump. Although we did have to dial back the pump a little because the maximum output per sea swirl is 850 gph. We are happy with it.

In my 100g tank I had both, over the top CL & tunze stream with controller, love them both but If I had to do one over the other I'd do the CL first, then later add a couple streams, talk about awesome combo!
